Privacy Policy

What this site collects, what it does not, and what happens to a message you choose to send

The short version

This is a static informational website. It runs no analytics, sets no cookies of its own, has no accounts, no logins, no shopping cart and no database. The contact form does not post to this site or to any service; it opens a pre-filled message in your own mail application. If you never write to me, I have no information about you beyond what the web server that hosts these files records automatically in order to serve them.

This policy was last reviewed on 15 August 2026. It describes practice as of that date and it will be updated on this page if the practice changes.

What the website itself collects

Nothing, in the ordinary sense. Every page here is a file that is sent to your browser. There is no form that posts data back, no tracking pixel, no advertising tag, no session identifier, no fingerprinting script, and no third-party embed placed to collect information about you.

A small amount of JavaScript runs on these pages to handle navigation and to assemble the contact message described below. It sends nothing anywhere.

Cookies and local storage

This site sets no cookies. It does not use local storage or session storage to track you, and there is no consent banner because there is nothing to consent to. If a browser extension or your own network sets a cookie while you read this site, that is outside my control and outside this policy.

Server logs

Like essentially every website, the hosting server records ordinary request information when it delivers a page: the address the request came from, the date and time, the file requested, the response code, the amount of data sent, and the browser identification string your browser supplies. These logs are generated by the hosting infrastructure, not by anything written into these pages.

I use them, if at all, only to diagnose errors and to see whether the site is being served correctly. I do not build profiles from them, do not attempt to identify individual readers from them, and do not combine them with anything else. They are retained for the hosting provider's ordinary rotation period and then overwritten.

Analytics

There is no analytics package on this site — no third-party measurement script, no tag manager, no heatmap tool. If that ever changes, the name of the tool and what it collects will appear in this section before it is deployed, and this date will be updated.

The contact form, and what it actually does

The form on the contact page is a convenience wrapper around your own email client. When you submit it, your browser assembles the text you typed into a pre-addressed message and hands it to whatever mail application you use. Nothing you type is transmitted to this website, and nothing is stored on it. If you close the mail window without sending, the text is gone.

Because the result is an ordinary email, it travels with ordinary email's protections — which is to say, not many. Do not send privileged material, client confidences, case files or anything under a protective order through it. A first message should carry the names needed for a conflict check and a sentence or two about the question, and nothing more.

What I do with a message you send

If you write, I use what you sent to run a conflict check, to reply, and to decide whether the matter is one I can help with. That is the whole purpose. I do not sell it, do not rent it, do not share it with a marketing service, and do not add you to a mailing list — there is no mailing list.

I will share the contents of a message only where you have asked me to, or where I am legally required to. If a conflict check shows I cannot take the matter, I say so and the conversation stops there.

How long messages are kept

Correspondence about an engagement I take on is retained with the file for that engagement, for as long as the matter and my professional obligations require. Correspondence about a matter that does not proceed — a conflict, a scope mismatch, a case that settles — is kept only as long as needed to run and re-run a conflict check accurately, since a check is only reliable if it has a record of prior contacts to check against. Unsolicited commercial email is deleted.

How to ask what is held, or ask for deletion

Write to the address on the contact page and ask. Tell me roughly when you wrote and from which address, so I can find it. I will tell you what I hold and, unless I am required to keep it or it belongs to the file of a matter I was retained on, I will delete it on request and confirm that I have.

This site is not directed to children and I do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

If the way this site handles information changes — an analytics tool added, a hosted form introduced, anything that makes the description above inaccurate — this page changes first, with a new review date at the top. There is no notification mechanism, because there is no list of readers to notify. The version you are reading is the version in force.
